Exhibition 【菊池克展】 Exhibition of Kikuchi Katsu

菊池克のいる国東半島は、六郷満山と呼ばれる仏教文化が栄えていた所である。今も、そこかしこで遺跡をみることのできる「み仏の里」。
この神秘にみちた地に腰を据え、導かれるように土を探し何度となく窯を焚いて十余年。彼の作品には、一種独特の風合いが感じられる。もともと持っている感性であるのか、修業で得られたものなのか、はたまた、この環境下によるものなのか…。どちらにしても、興味深い作品をつくる作家である。

Kunisaki Peninsula, where lives Kikuchi Katsu, is the holy area the Buddhism culture called Rokugo Mamzan once prospered. You can see historic remains of Buddha here and there at “Mihotoke no Sato(means the village of Buddha)”
He settled down at this mysterious place looking for ideal clays for his works, just as guided by Buddha, and he has been firing his kiln for more than ten years since then. His works has its own style, which is very unique. We never know the style was naturally delivered from his talent, or earned by studying and training, or created under the circumstances of his kiln. Anyhow, it is sure his newest work is the most interesting ever.
