しっかりとよく焼け同時に潤いのある油揚手の釉肌、名碗「朝比奈」を思い起こすような焦げ……
黄瀬戸の名手として知られた各務周海先生が亡くなられてもう11年になろうとしています。

黄瀬戸の名品が焼かれた窯下窯で胆礬の抜けた油揚手の小さな陶片を見つけ、その美しさに惚れ込み黄瀬戸への挑戦を始められたという周海先生。
桃山の陶工に思いを馳せ、様々な黄瀬戸釉を試す中でたどり着いたのは地元恵那の栗の樹皮。裏山の雑木林の土灰とこの栗皮灰をほどよく合わせて潤いのある黄瀬戸釉を作られました。
何よりも苦心されたのは僅かな差異が大きく釉調を変える焼成。しっかりと焼ききり、それでいて艶やかな釉、柔らかな土肌、鮮やかな胆礬。その窯焚から生まれた黄瀬戸はいまだに多くのファンを魅了しています。

この度の展示会では生前からコレクションを続けてこられたコレクターの方の作品をご紹介致します。

The rich yellow glaze fired at high temperature and the burnt brown that associates with a famous chawan “ASAHINA,” are the characteristics of the works of the great artist KAGAMI Shukai.
Finding a small piece of Kiseto work at Kamashita-kiln where most excellent old Kiseto works had fired, became the trigger of starting firing Kiseto. The small Abura-age style with green chalcanthite strongly fascinated him. Thinking of pottery artisans in Momoyama period, uncountable failures of experiments had led him to use the bark of chestnuts trees grown nearby his local Ena area. He mixed ash of Chestnut and various kinds of wood and straw from the nearby mountain to make rich Kiseto glaze. The biggest matter for him was firing process that the circumstance affects huge difference in the outcomes.
His works were firmly fired at a high temperature, and yet having rich and moist glaze, tender surface and bright green chalcanthite, which still attracts so many pottery fans even after his fatal accident eleven years ago.
We wish to express our gratitude to a collector that without enthusiasm on his works since the artist was still alive holding the exhibition would not have been possible.
